Gin Margarita Fizz - a fresh new take on margaritas using the traditional flavours of Cointreau and fresh lime juice, and mixing up the classic with some gin!

So.......here in our little corner of Australia it's lockdown time.......again.......so I made cocktails!!!!!!! Well, Gin Margarita Fizz cocktails to be exact! This is my gin twist on the traditional margarita cocktail recipe, also know as a Margatini. Classic flavours of fresh lime juice and Cointreau paired with gin instead of tequila, and topped off with tonic so it's a long cocktail. Perfect for a long lockdown.clear drink in a clear glass with a slice of lime on the side

I know, alcohol is not the answer to our problems, but it sure puts a positive spin on them in my house! If you agree with me, let's get our cocktail on...

My top tips for making this cocktail recipe

    • To be honest, for this cocktail I just chuck everything in the glass and give it a bit of a swirl then add the tonic and drink! You could get all fancy and shake it up in a cocktail shaker if you have one (I don't).
    • No Cointreau? Use Triple Sec or Grand Marnier instead.
    • I have garnished these margatini drinks with a slice of lime on the glass itself as well as a lime wheel on the rim.
    • You can get super fancy and salt the rims of the glasses. I have included instructions for this just below.
    • I also like a really cold cocktail, so I like to chill the gin too.

How to rim a glass with salt

    • Rub a section of the fleshy part of a piece of lime around the rim of the glass.
    • Place salt on a shallow plate larger than the diameter of the glass.
    • Turn the glass upside down and dip the rim into the salt and twist to coat, or tilt sideways and turn to coat the outside edge only.salt on white plate
