My Maltesers Slice is the perfect no-bake answer to your chocolate cravings.
The base of this Maltesers slice is made using crushed biscuits, sweetened condensed milk and plenty of Maltesers, plus extras sprinkled on top for good measure.
No bake slices are one of my favourite desserts, just mix it all together then set it in the fridge. Easy.
Here in Australia we call this kind of dessert a "slice", the British tend to call this a traybake ("traybakes" come in both baked and unbaked varities) or even a tiffin.
Whatever you call it, it's pretty much no-fail baking (or traybaking), which I think is the best kind of baking!
If you are a Malteser fan *hand goes up* then you are going to love this Maltesers slice recipe!

What are Maltesers
Maltesers are a kind of confectionary shaped like small balls approximately 1cm in diameter, and consisting of two layers. The center sphere tastes like malted milk and has a crisp, honeycomb-like texture. Then covering this center is an outer shell of milk chocolate.

Top tips
- Because we aren't baking this Maltesers slice, there is no need to find a baking "tin" of a suitable size - you could use a plastic container instead if you like.
- You could also use a bigger tin, your slice will just be a bit thinner.
- It's still necessary to grease and line whatever tin you put this slice in to set with baking paper. This will help you get it out of the tin later.
- I use a food processor to crush the biscuits, but if you don't have one just put them in a sturdy plastic bag and give them a bash with something solid like a rolling pin.
- Allowing the mixture to cool slightly after the biscuit crumbs are mixed in just ensures that all of the chocolate outer shell doesn't melt off the Maltesers.
- Time to slice but it won't come out of the tin? Just sit the base of your tin in hot water for a couple of seconds then it will come out freely.
Variations
- I have used Malt-O-Milk biscuits because they add to the malt flavour of the slice. You could substitute these with another plain sweet biscuit/cookie if you like.
- A few tablespoons of golden syrup is a nice addition. This ups the malty taste as well, but it will also increase the sweetness.
- You could swap dark or white chocolate for the milk chocolate.
- The vegetable oil is mixed with the milk chocolate for the top of this slice to make it easier to slice. You could substitute coconut oil or leave it out altogether.
Serving suggestions
- Great afternoon treat for the kids, big and small.
- Awesome with a cup of tea or coffee.
- Works well as a make ahead dessert too.
Slices is the term used in Australia for a particular family of desserts. Usually made in a low-sided rectangular or square shaped tin, they can be baked or unbaked, and with or without icing. The US version of this kind of food is cookie bars or squares, and in the UK they are called traybakes or flapjacks.
