Baked Brie with Fig Jam is the perfect appetizer for holiday entertaining - delicious, elegant and so easy!

This easy appetizer ticks all the boxes for me because it's simple to make, tastes divine, and looks beautiful when it hits the table. I just love it when a plan comes together.

You could serve this baked brie with fig jam as part of a larger cheese board to feed a crowd, or just on a serving platter with some sliced baguette or crackers on the side.

How oozy and gooey does that cheese look? So good!

Top tips for the best result

    • No cute little cast iron skillet? A shallow (so you can easily dip without burning your fingers) ramekin or baking dish similar in diameter will work just as well. My little skillet is 12cm/41/2" in diameter at the base.
    • If you would like to make the top rind easier to dig into, take a small sharp knife and score a crisscross pattern into the rind on top.

    Substitutions

    • substitute camembert cheese for the brie, similar in taste but a little less creamy
    • use pecan nuts in place of the walnuts
    • try red currant or cranberry jam instead of fig jam
    • use fresh thyme leaves instead of fresh rosemary

    Reheating

This baked brie recipe will stay scoopable for around 15 minutes, but you can easily reheat it in the microwave if you need to, you just need to plan ahead.

If you are going to bake the brie in a small cast iron skillet like me (not microwave-safe), line the skillet with baking/parchment paper so that you can lift it out and transfer it to a suitable container for reheating.

    Serving suggestions

    • garnish with sprigs of rosemary
    • serve with sliced fresh figs or sliced pear

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 180c.
    • In a small bowl combine the fig jam, finely chopped rosemary and chopped walnuts.
      3 tablespoons fig jam
      ¼ teaspoon fresh rosemary leaves
      2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
    • Place the wheel of brie in the middle of a small cast iron frying pan (or similar) mine is 12cm/4½" in diameter (base measurement).
200 g wheel of brie cheese
    • Spread the fig jam mixture evenly over the top surface of the brie.
    • Bake for 15 - 20 minutes, or until the brie is melted and oozy.
    • Serve immediately.

    Notes

    • Sub for mini cast-iron skillet: a low-sided ramekin or dish of similar diameter (oven safe).
    • If you would like to make the top easier to dig into, score a crisscross pattern into the top surface of the rind with a small sharp knife - totally optional.
    • Optional reheating: If your skillet/ramekin isn't microwave-safe, you can line it with baking/parchment paper so that you can lift the cheese out and transfer it to a microwave-safe container for reheating.
