What is baharat
Baharat is the name given to a spice blend commonly used in Middle Eastern cuisine, which can include a varying combination of ingredients such as allspice, cinnamon, black peppercorns, cardamom pods, nutmeg, ginger, ground coriander and cumin.
The word baharat translates to spices in Arabic and is used to refer to a mixture of finely ground spices, with many variations between regions. It's a little bit of an all-purpose spice blend that is used to flavour meat dishes, vegetables and soups.
The traditional way of making baharat uses whole spices that you would then grind to a fine powder. But as we know, I'm all about the easy version of things, so I have gone down that route. Same flavours, less work!
No need for a spice grinder or even a pestle and mortar - my baharat spice blend uses pre-ground spices that you should easily (and cheaply) be able to find at your local supermarket or grocery store.
