Top tips
- You can crush the biscuits in a food processor or just put the biscuits into a sturdy plastic bag and give them a good bash with a rolling pin. I like to leave some bigger chunks for extra texture and crunch.
- It's still important to grease and line your tin even though we aren't baking this chocolate hedgehog slice, this is to help it come out of the tin when it's set. If you are still having difficulty getting it out of the tin, just sit the base of the tin in hot water for a few seconds and it should come straight out.
- As with any no-bake slice, one of the advantages is that you don't actually need a baking tin to make it in. If you don't have a baking pan or tin that's a suitable size, just use something else such as a plastic container like Tupperware etc. That being said, you could also go a bit bigger or smaller because there is no cooking time to consider.
- The vegetable oil is combined with the chocolate for the icing so that it's easier to slice (and eat) without it cracking. You could substitute coconut oil if you prefer.
- No hedgehogs were harmed in the making of this slice!!!
Variations and serving suggestions
- Nuts such as walnuts or macadamia nuts would be a nice addition to this slice. Substitute them for some of the rice bubbles.
- You could use milk or dark chocolate for this recipe, or a combination of both.
- Sprinkle some extra coconut on top if you like.

Great Sandie, glad they enjoyed it!
Love this recipe. By rice bubbles do you mean plain rice crispies? Or the breakfast cereal?
Hi Dominique! I used the breakfast cereal called Rice Bubbles.
