My homemade Truffle Butter recipe is all about adding a little bit of affordable luxury to your food.
No need for fresh truffles (if you can find them and afford them go for it!) we are going to use black truffle puree or truffle oil (depending on what's available to you) to easily create this rich, luxurious compound butter at home.
We want to get maximum bang for our truffle buck, so I recommend adding the truffle paste or oil gradually.
You may need less than you expect to achieve the flavour you want, and we don't want to waste it!
The actual amount of truffle in either of these products can vary greatly from one to another, so their taste and intensity will vary greatly too.

How to make this truffle butter recipe
- In a small bowl, combine roughly a quarter of the butter and truffle paste or oil.
- Mix to combine.
- Then combine this smaller amount of butter with the remaining butter and parmesan.
- Mix to combine, then add salt to taste.
Top tips
- Truffle paste or truffle oil will both work in this recipe - use whichever you can get your hands on.
- Truffle flavour and intensity can vary greatly from one product to another. Best to start small with your truffle ingredients and work up from there.
- I like to use unsalted butter as salted butter products can vary in their salt content, and add it myself to taste.
- Use a fork or a simple traditional potato masher to mix the butter together.
- You only want the butter to be slightly soft, just enough so that you can mix it. If it gets too soft the consistency of your butter will be different after it's refrigerated again.
Variations
- I love the parmesan cheese in this butter, it enhances the umami flavour of the truffles, but you can leave it out if you wish.
- Oven roasted garlic would be an amazing addition to this truffle butter recipe.
What do you use truffle butter for?
- Spreading on bread or toast.
- Serve a pat on top of grilled steak.
- Put under the skin of chicken before it's roasted.
- Adding to pasta or risotto.
- Use in scrambled eggs.
- Mixing into mashed potatoes.
