How to make lamb seasoning
- Add the herbs and spices to a small bowl.
- Mix to combine, adding salt to taste.
Top tips
- You could substitute ⅛ teaspoon of ground cumin for the cumin seeds.
- If you store this seasoning for later use, make sure to give it a good shake before using it.
Storage
Because this seasoning mix is made using dried herbs and spices, it will keep in an airtight container in the pantry for 6 months or more, depending on the expiry dates of the ingredients you used.
Serving suggestions
- Great for when you are roasting lamb in the oven, also perfect for grilling and pan frying too. Just sprinkle over the meat and you are ready to cook.
- You could make this lamb seasoning into more of a lamb rub by giving it a grind up for a few minutes in a pestle and mortar. This will give you fine powder instead of the whole dried leaves which acts as more of a dry spice rub style of seasoning mix.
- Even though I have designed this recipe specifically for using with lamb, this mixture of flavours also pairs well with roast potatoes too.
Variations and substitutions
- I usually add dried marjoram to this seasoning mix, but I can't buy it here anymore so I have left it out of this recipe. If you are in the USA or elsewhere and have it on hand add ¼ teaspoon to this mix.
- Other herbs and spices that would make a good addition are dried sage (only use a little as it has a strong flavour), ground coriander seeds and onion powder.
Cumin, garlic, and salt.
Classic herbs like rosemary, thyme, oregano, and mint.
