Green Onion Dip (With Video)

My homemade Green Onion Dip is full of flavour and made from fresh ingredients. It's so much better than store-bought and makes a quick and easy appetizer with your favourite chips.

Ingredients

  • 250 g cream cheese slightly softened
  • 250 g sour cream
  • cups sliced green onions (shallots) (approx 6-7) reserve a few slices for garnish
  • 2 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ cup parsley finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed/minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon fine salt

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a small frypan, then add sliced green onions and fry until soft and lightly charred.

  • Add crushed garlic and continue to fry for 30 seconds then remove to a large bowl to cool.

  • Place cream cheese and sour cream into the bowl of a food processor and process until smooth, then add to the bowl with the green onions.

  • Add chopped fresh parsley and mix to combine.

  • Add lemon juice and salt.

  • Keep dip in an airtight container (or covered in plastic wrap) in the refrigerator until ready to use. Garnish with additional sliced green onions for serving if you like.

Notes

  • To easily slice the green onions, firstly trim off the root ends then bundle them together on your chopping board, line up the ends then slice through them all at once in one cut. I use both the white and green parts of the green onions (shallots) in this recipe. Watch them though, because the little slices are round they tend to roll!
  • Some light char on the green onions is good, but not on the garlic or it will taste bitter.
  • Save yourself another dish to wash and place the cooked green onions into your final serving bowl to cool, then add your remaining ingredients to that bowl.
